Hibiscus Dental Sponsors ‘Halloween Candy Buy Back’ Event for Brevard Kids!
For the third year, Hibiscus Dental is promoting pediatric dental hygiene and good-health in kids! Our “Halloween Candy Buy Back” event offers children the opportunity to sell their excess Halloween candy for $1 per pound at any of our three Hibiscus Dental Offices in Brevard County. The candy we buy will then be distributed to local organizations who send care packages to U.S. troops serving overseas, local veterans, and local charitable organizations that support those in need.
Last year Hibiscus Dental collected over 250 lbs of candy from the caring and wonderfully sharing children in Brevard! We can’t wait to see what this year brings!
We promote proper dental care as part of every family’s fun Halloween celebration! As global sugar consumption for kids increases by about 2% each year, currently Halloween candy consumption sits at about 50 million tons per year… This means parents need to be sure their kids teeth are being cared for more than ever. As well as possibly damaging children’s teeth, too much candy can lead to hyperactivity and unhealthy weight gains. In some cases, the wrong types of candy can also lead to broken and damaged braces.
“Kids can still have all of the fun of trick-or-treating but now their piggy banks will benefit as well. We chose to sponsor the Halloween Candy Buy Back program in Brevard to help parents that want to let their kids have fun but also limit the amount of sugar and teach preventative dental care. We also like to be part of an action supporting our troops and our community members in need,” said Dr. Sweta Gunnell of the Hibiscus Dental Satellite Beach office.
Hibiscus Dental will be working with Local Movement, Inc., a 501(c)(3), volunteer-based organization that will help distribute the collected candy to charities who send packages to U.S. Service Members deployed, local veterans, and local charities that support those in need. Redistributing the sweet treats in the community to those who really appreciate it and reducing the total amount consumed for each participating child.
Candy can be dropped off at any of the three Hibiscus Dental offices (Merritt Island, Satellite Beach, or Suntree/Viera) from Thursday, November 1st through Monday, November 5th – during regular office hours per each office. Please check the days open and office hours at the bottom of our website before driving over! The program is open to all children, regardless of whether they are currently Hibiscus Dental patients. All candy must be sealed or wrapped in original packaging.
